Gabby O’Conner | Radical acts of transformation: Display, installation, site, materials and place

  • NMIT, G Block, Johnny Cash Room 65 Nile Street Nelson, Nelson, 7010 New Zealand (map)

This all-day workshop will focus on working with everyday materials, the Johnny Cash room and collections of our own work to consider unexpected ways of presenting our work in relation to the architecture, between our works and each other. It will be experimental, mad, messy and fun- and there will be lots of making. Gabby will take you through some basic principles and rules of display which we will then all disobey and make anew. We will finish the day with a tiny temporary group show that only we will see!

Gabby O’Connor is an installation artist, educator and researcher living in Te Whanganui A Tara.  Her own artmaking operates on radical transformations of ideas, materials and sites in relation to audiences and place. She also has a healthy dislike for plinths and fishing line but also knows that all rules are meant to be broken.
