Stevei Houkāmau | Conversations with whakapapa

  • Kiln Studio 123 Bridge Street Nelson, Nelson, 7010 New Zealand (map)

Come along to a exciting uku workshop with Uku artist Stevei Houkāmau and explore your own whakapapa and korero and how to connect to your own stories.

In this 3 hour workshop you will hand build and shape a unique taonga and work with Stevei to explore techniques to mark your taonga with your own whakapapa. Stevei will also demonstrate her own unique skillset in carving and will provide a taonga for each participant to learn to carve on.

Stevei Houkāmau affirms whakapapa as the centre of her uku practice. Stretching through and beyond her personal biography, her works connect with legacies of Māori making, migration from te Moana nui a kiwa, and kinship ties with Atua, exploring the spiritual connection from Atua to tāngata.
